Lane Wesley Burt is the founder and managing principal of Ember Strategies. Lane is a passionate advocate for energy efficiency and a translator of complex building science into everyday English. Lane works to eliminate wasted energy and water from the built environment by advancing the best building science and the most innovative policies and programs. He has informed international best practices on green building programs, U.S. federal appliance standards, state building codes, and city benchmarking ordinances.

Lane was awarded the 2014 Fulbright Professional Scholar in Climate Change and Clean Energy, and was hosted by ClimateWorks Australia and the Monash Sustainability Institute in Melbourne. While down under, he studied the effects of the Australian national Commercial Building Disclosure (CBD) program and the Australian building code compliance process.

Before founding Ember Strategies in 2013, Lane was the Policy Director of the U.S. Green Building Council in Washington D.C. and previously the federal energy efficiency lead for the Natural Resources Defense Council. Lane is a licensed Professional Engineer and has Masters and Bachelors degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida and North Carolina State University respectively.

Lane is a well known speaker on efficiency and has given keynotes and technical presentations at a variety of events in North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Lane has provided numerous briefings and testimonies before congressional committees in the U.S. Senate and House or Representatives, as well as federal agencies. He has done extensive press work on energy efficiency and his writing has been published in the Washington Post and many online outlets dedicated to green building.
